Hit or Stand

Blackjack is a gambling game which had its origins in France. Blackjack is usually played in casinos. Such casinos are available online and offline. The game has rules that have to be followed while playing. Knowing when to hit or stand is the most common, yet critical decision you will make as a player.

Hitting

Players should know when to hit or stand to win the game and to reduce the house advantage to as low as possible. So it is essential that the player must know on when they should commit a hit and when to stand. This is necessary to avoid a bust and to avoid having the dealer from winning the game.

It is important to note that the player must never hit when he has a 17 or more. The chances of winning are good if a player is standing on hard 17 or more. But players must never stand if they have a soft 17 in hand. At the same time, if the player has a sixteen in hand, the chances of busting are high if you hit.

But if the dealer is showing a 7 or above, you simply must hit. The chances of winning when the player has eleven or less in hand are very much less also. If the player has an 11 total or less, it is mandatory to hit.

The chance of winning when the player has a ten value card is higher than any other single value card (except the ace). If the dealer has an ace, the opportunity for him to win without busting is high. The players can succeed if they are hitting for any cards totaling less than sixteen. At the same time the player must plan to stand when they have a seventeen or more with them.

If the dealer is having 10, J, K or Q, the player has a successful chance when he has 11. Then if the player hits a ten value card, they will get 21. So at this juncture, it is wise to change the strategy. When the dealer has a ten value card it is wise not to double. Always hit for any value of cards lower than(soft) 17.

Standing

The case changes if the dealer has 7, 8 or 9. Then the player can hit if the card value is 9 or less and between 12 and 16. But then they should again stand for 17 or more. If the dealer is has 4, 5 or 6 the chances of success for him is the least. Then the player can surely go for a hit for 8 or less and stand for 12 plus. A double is a good option here on 9,10 or 11 for the player.

If the dealer has a 3, he has little chance of success. The player can surely go on hitting 8 or higher or less than 12. But they must stand on 13 or more. Or again double where available(for information on doubling click on the doubling down link)

If the dealer has a 2, he has no chance of winning the blackjack. So the player can hit for 9(or double) or less than twelve. He can stand for 13 and more to avoid a bust and to win the game. NOTE, Some strategy charts recommend to only double on a 9 when the dealer shows 3,4,5 or a 6.

So the strategies of success in blackjack are dependent on the situation. The card count has a great value here. The hit or stand decision must be taken after considering the up card shown by dealer. The player should decide to hit or stand only after knowing the chances of drawing cards by the dealer.

The dealer will always try to avoid a bust and win. So without blindly following the written strategies, the player must always try to think logically and act accordingly. It must be remembered that if you bust and the dealer busts, you will lose your money regardless.
